If you regularly make the drive between here and Green Bay, then you’ve no doubt missed visiting the rest stops on I-43 near Denmark and Maribel in Manitowoc County. For the past year or so they’ve been closed for a complete rebuild – but that project is done and yesterday the DOT dedicated the brand new facilities with a ribbon cutting.
The old facilities were built in 1980 and had become outdated and too small, but the new rest stops boast more than double the original number of truck parking spaces with 56 each at the northbound and southbound stops, while new signs display the number of open spaces. Better lighting has also been added along with dedicated vending spaces, drinking fountains with water bottle fillers, and ADA-compliant restrooms.
The $20.4 million project was bolstered by $12-1/2 million in federal funds.
