The State has recommended the maximum sentence for a Manitowoc man who was found guilty of a hit-and-run last year that left a motorcyclist with severe injuries.
Steven Behnke had originally pleaded not guilty, telling officers that he was in Sheboygan at the time of the accident. Benhke’s story was refuted when officers found a piece of his vehicle with the VIN number on it, and surveillance video showing Benhke dropping the vehicle off at a body shop for repairs.
Behnke changed his plea to one of no contest. He is scheduled for a sentencing hearing October 1st.
