A man is alive this morning thanks to a huge, collaborative rescue effort, after being buried alive yesterday. Elkhart Lake EMS officials say the incident happened when 3 people were standing in a trench, and it began to cave in, trapping a 55 year old man.
Crews from Elkhart Lake Fire & Rescue and Police were assisted by Elkhart Lake Public Works personnel, who all began working to create an airway for the man to breathe, then proceeded to relieve weight and pressure on his chest while the crews began to dig him out.
After less than a half hour since the initial call, the man was rescued and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
