Sheboygan Police Officer Dustin Fickett and Public Safety Cadets are checking parked vehicles around the city to help prevent theft. They’re looking to see if cars are locked, if valuables are visible through the windows, and whether keys have been left inside.
If a vehicle appears to be an easy target for thieves, officers will leave a courtesy reminder under the windshield wiper. But when keys are found inside a vehicle, officers go a step further by trying to contact the owner to explain why it’s important to lock up and never leave keys behind.
