SYDNEY, July 6 (Reuters) – The number of Australian job advertisements dipped slightly in June, private-sector data showed on Monday, suggesting labour demand was only gradually easing amid higher borrowing costs.
KEY DETAILS
• The number of job advertisements fell 0.2% in June from May, when they rose 2%, according to data from Australia and New Zealand Banking Group and employment website Indeed. Ads were up 0.5% from June last year, and remained 15% above their decade-long averages.
• The gain was driven by stronger demand for nurses and real estate professionals, but vacancies in retail, food preparation and management fell sharply. Job ads for logistics-related roles steadied after two months of declines but driver opportunities continued to fall.
• The latest job data showed the economy created 40,300 net jobs in May, reversing a sharp decline a month earlier. The jobless rate also eased to 4.4% from 4.5% after three rate hikes from the Reserve Bank of Australia this year.
