A round of early morning thunderstorms has provided some welcome relief as bountiful rain cooled the muggy air and gave a much-needed drink to lawns, gardens and crops. But the relief will be temporary.
An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 10 PM for daytime heat index values over 100º and nighttime heat index values over 75º for four days in a row. Today’s highs in the upper 80s will push our feels-like temps into the 90s for yet another day, but slightly cooler temperatures should eliminate the need for heat warnings over the holiday weekend beginning tomorrow. And more thunderstorms could become severe again today.

Unfortunately, the threat of severe weather will remain through the weekend, possibly interfering with the many Independence Day activities planned throughout the area. Forecasters can’t say exactly when or where those storms will occur at this time, but advise everyone to keep up with the latest forecasts and possible watches or warnings that may arise.
