Today is Juneteenth, an observance that recognizes the announcement of the end of slavery to the last to know – a black population in Galveston, Texas. That happened with the arrival there of Union Soldiers on June 19th, 1865
In observance, all federal and state offices are closed. Banks and the post office are also closed today.
In Sheboygan, a community wide celebration is planned at Kiwanis Park from 5 -9 this evening.
