The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced on Thursday that Highway 28 between Waldo and Sheboygan Falls has been scheduled for a major repair project. Construction extends from Deer Trace on the east to Highway 57 on the western extent.
The notice stated that “This project will improve 8.9 miles of WIS 28 in Sheboygan County. The culvert structure at the tributary to the Onion River is beginning to deteriorate, and the pavement is experiencing cracking, weathering, and rutting. In addition, the curb and gutter at the roundabout at WIS 28 and WIS 32 is in need of replacement, and the guardrail along the corridor has reached the end of its service life. Run off road crashes were also identified along the corridor.”
Traffic will continue to flow with flagging operations over much of the extent, however culvert replacement and intersection reconstruction will make some detours necessary.
WIS 28 at the Onion River Tributary will be closed during bridge replacement.
WIS 28 detour route will utilize WIS 57 and County U
The roundabout intersection of WIS 28 and WIS 32 will be closed for curb and gutter replacement and paving operations.
WIS 28 detour will utilize WIS 57, County V, and I-43
WIS 32 detour will utilize WIS 23, I-43, and County V
Construction will begin in July and is expected to be completed in November.
