Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O’Hoppe was activated from the 10-day injured list prior to Friday night’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Anaheim.
O’Hoppe will be behind the plate and batting eighth for the opener of the Freeway Series.
O’Hoppe, 26, was sidelined with a small fracture in his left wrist sustained during an April 25 contest against the Kansas City Royals. O’Hoppe was injured on a foul tip in the seventh inning. He finished the frame before exiting the game.
O’Hoppe was batting just .205 with one homer and eight RBIs in 26 games prior to the injury. He has a .230 average with 54 homers in 337 career games since reaching the majors in 2022.
The Angels optioned catcher Omar Martinez to Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move. Martinez, 24, went 1-for-3 in five games.
Another veteran Angels catcher, Travis d’Arnaud, remains on the IL with plantar fasciitis. The 37-year-old is batting .200 with one homer and three RBIs in 14 games.
The Angels are reportedly going to sign journeyman catcher Austin Wynns to a minor league deal. Wynns was recently released by the Athletics after turning down a demotion to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Wynns, 35, has a .231 career average with 19 homers and 84 RBIs in 292 games with six clubs. He was 3-for-39 (.077) in 14 games for the A’s this season.
Also, right-hander Grayson Rodriguez will make his Angels debut on Sunday against the Dodgers. Rodriguez was acquired from the Baltimore Orioles in a deal for outfielder Taylor Ward in the offseason.
Rodriguez, 26, opened the season on the 15-day IL due to right shoulder inflammation. He displayed his progress by posting 11 strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings for Class A Rancho Cucamonga last Sunday. He also allowed two runs, seven hits, two walks and hit a batter.
Rodriguez missed all of the 2025 season with Baltimore, eventually undergoing season-ending elbow surgery. He is 20-8 with a 4.11 ERA in 43 starts over two on-field seasons with the Orioles.
