David Harrold Bachmann, 96, of Sheboygan, Wisconsin passed away on May 1, 2026. David was born on September 14, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois to Dr. Harrold and Carita (née Reiss) Bachmann. On September 26, 1951, he married Diane (née Ribich) Bachmann, they separated after 35 years.
In 1955 David acquired Pinehurst Farm which had been in the family since 1910. David had a keen interest in breeding registered Holsteins and developing bloodlines to produce exceptional dairy cows. He went on to breed and develop a Holstein herd known worldwide. In 1976 and 1980 Pinehurst Farm won Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor at all three National Holstein shows, a feat achieved only by Pinehurst. In 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980 and 1981 the Pinehurst herd was the leading exhibitor of All-American Nominees. David managed and worked dairy cattle sales across the country and exported thousands of cattle to Japan and Europe.
David was preceded in death by his parents, brother Peter Bachmann, sister Mary Jannone, sister Joan Ribich, and daughter Mary Joan Bachmann.
David is survived by his wife Diane, their son David Bachmann, Jr., his former daughter-in-law Brenda Blum; David, Jr. and Brenda’s children, Christopher Bachmann, Matthew (Lauren) Bachmann and Alexandra Bachmann; Matthew and Lauren’s children Eleanor and Evander. David is further survived by Nancy Thomson, his companion for the last 40 years, and their children, Laura (Nathália de Oliveira) Bachmann and Robert (Sarah Hadley) Bachmann.
At Mr. Bachmann’s request there will be no service. Olson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses, staff, and volunteers of the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their compassionate care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in David’s name are appreciated.
