The Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles is warning customers about attempts to defraud them.
Scammers have been sending messages warning people that their license is at risk of being suspended due to unpaid fines. The messages cite State Statutes, include current dates and appear to be very official at first glance. A closer look reveals the universal fact behind most such scams…that being that no state or local government agency will ever notify you of, or accept payments for violations via text messaging, and anyone following the instructions will be putting their money and personal information at risk.
The DMV does have an e-notification service that, like bank accounts, can confirm genuine activity and detect possible fraud. Sign up for eNotify here:
