A race for local representation in the Wisconsin State Assembly is now officially underway for the November election. John Belanger, who was defeated in his reelection bid as a Sheboygan Alder earlier this month, is running as a Republican for the seat now held by Democrat Joe Sheehan.
Belanger, who’s lived more than 30 years in Sheboygan, says that he’s running because, quote: “I believe our community deserves strong, hardworking representation that will fight for Sheboygan in Madison.” He went on to say that “My top priority is ensuring fiscally responsible government that addresses affordability issues for families, workers, and small businesses.
Belanger made his announcement on Tuesday; Sheehan has not yet announced his reelection bid.
