The Sheboygan Fire Department responded to a fire early Wednesday morning, but the on-site sprinkler system had already saved crews most of their work.
The report of a sprinkler system activation came in at a little before 4 AM. The first units arrived within three minutes to observe a significant amount of smoke coming from the third floor of the building. The SFD didn’t name the structure involved, however the only three-story building in the reported location of the 2700 Block of North 15th Street is Plenco.
Employees had already safely evacuated prior to the arrival of fire crews, who then entered the structure and located a small fire on the third floor which had been successfully extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system.
Crews ventilated the area, confirmed there was no extension of the fire, and assessed the area for damages. That examination identified some stored chemicals that had been impacted by the fire, but no immediate hazards were present and the scene was turned over to responsible parties on-site.
SFD Officials are continuing the investigation into the cause of the fire, and encourage anyone with sprinkler systems to be sure they’re properly maintained in order to arrive at similarly successful results.
