The extended cold weather is being blamed for a spate of water main breaks, both in Sheboygan and in some surrounding areas.
The Sheboygan Water Utility had to shut down the supply on Thursday to repair a break on South 16th Street between Mead and Humboldt Avenues. Earlier in the day, a main broke on South 8th Street south of Penn Avenue, and water had to be shut down between South 12th and 13th Streets on Kentucky Avenue on Monday in order to repair another break. Several other breaks also occurred during the prior week.
The City of Sheboygan Falls dealt with its own water main break as well on Wednesday night, leading to the closure of Fond du Lac Avenue between Water and Wisconsin Streets until noon on Thursday.
