Weather is living up to the warnings issued by the National Weather Service as Sheboygan County shivers along with much of the nation.
Forecasters have now extended the Extreme Cold Warning for Sheboygan and surrounding counties into Saturday morning at 6 AM as wind chills no better than between 25 and 30 degrees below zero are expected throughout. A Cold Weather Advisory will then take over until noon.

By 4:30 this Friday morning the Sheboygan County Airport thermometer had dropped to -13º with a wind chill of -33º. Highs might bump up to minus 6 today before slipping back to the teens below overnight, but we should be above the zero mark again by noon tomorrow…although not by much…and most of Sunday will be spent in the single digits above.

Cold persists at least through Wednesday next week with daytime highs around 10 above and lows still reaching near the zero mark. If there’s any good news, it doesn’t appear likely you’ll need to get out the snow shovel any time soon. But if you do spend time outdoors, wear layers and protect all skin from exposure, as frostbite can happen within minutes under extreme conditions, and without enough layers, hypothermia is a deadly risk. Safety hints can be found below.
