With safety in the balance, the National Weather Service was keeping a close eye on conditions that could turn dangerous for travel in southern Wisconsin this morning. That comes from a combination of a light drizzle over some areas late last night, combined with temperatures slumping to near, or below freezing.
The devil is in the details, here, as not everyone received drizzle, and many will remain just enough above freezing to avoid trouble, but the margin between safe and slippery will be very small.
As a result, there’s a good chance that those traveling into and westward from the Kettle Moraine will experience slippery spots by 6 AM, and with sunrise and its milder temperatures not until 7:23 AM, the morning commute is likely to become hazardous, especially in areas north and west of the Milwaukee Metro and, around here, approximately west of Highway 57.
Although there are no formal advisories, forecasters are advising caution when traveling this morning.
