A sudden water pressure drop has prompted the issuance of a Boil Water Advisory for residents who depend on the Cleveland Water Utility for their drinking water.
According to a release issued by the utility on Tuesday, the pressure drop resulted from a fire hydrant break, which may have compromised water within the system. Potential contamination could be in the form of bacteria, viruses, or parasites that can cause Diarrhea, Nausea, Cramps and Headaches. Infants, young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are especially vulnerable.
While system repairs are done and the broken hydrant is replaced, the Utility will be flushing the system and conduct ongoing water quality testing until the “all clear” is issued by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
Until the DNR gives the OK, people should not drink tap water or use it for cooking until after first bringing it to a rolling boil for 1 minute, and then cooling before use. Bottled water is highly recommended for drinking, icemaking, toothbrushing, dishwashing and food preparation.
