Someone calling themselves “Lieutenant Noble” of the Fond du Lac Police Department is trying to scam residents there out of their hard-earned money. The fact is, there really is a Fond du Lac Police Lieutenant Noble, making it even more difficult for people to figure out that a crime is in progress.
The real Lieutenant Noble isn’t calling people to tell them that they’re in deep trouble due to missed jury duty, but the scammer is threatening people with legal action unless they pay up over the phone. And the phone number on caller ID looks as official as the voice sounds.
As a reminder, no legitimate law enforcement agency in the US calls people demanding payments over the phone, and if you get such a call, simply hang up and you won’t be in trouble.
