A Fond du Lac middle school was put in lockdown on Wednesday while officers searched for two suspects on the run.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office said that a stop for traffic violations turned into a chase when the driver and his passenger fled. Shortly after terminating a short chase, the vehicle was found abandoned behind a West Johnson Street store near the Sabish Middle School, which was preparing for dismissal at around 3 PM. The school was put into lockdown for safety and a K9 unit located the passenger, a 28-year-old Fond du Lac man at nearby apartments who was arrested. A second K9 was called in but couldn’t locate the driver. The school lockdown was lifted after tracking was completed.
Sheriff’s deputies located a backpack containing 2.3 pounds of marijuana that the suspects had discarded. The search continues for the driver while the investigation remains underway.
