A popular Sheboygan event had to be postponed when thunderstorms interrupted plans on Monday. The traditional Lantern Making and Parade event at Vollrath Bowl was supposed to take place yesterday. Now sponsored by the Sheboygan County Museum, and with origins dating back some 90 years, the event traditionally marked the end of the Recreation Department’s summer playground program in August. Each year the bowl would fill with crowds by the thousands, as children carrying their hand-made lanterns performed skits and paraded at dusk. However Mother Nature had a light show of her own planned yesterday, and the lightning and rain resulted in cancellation.
Not to worry – for now – though, as a rain date of Monday, August 25th was already set, just in case. With a bit of good fortune, you can watch – and participate that day with lantern-making from 4 until 6, and the parade at 8PM. You can find details at the Sheboygan County Museum website.
