When Wisconsin residents apply for a drivers license they’re now asked if they’d like an emergency contact in their records. But unless you’ve renewed after June 1st of last year when the law allowing it was passed, you probably haven’t known about the option.
Wisconsin requires drivers to renew their license every eight years. That means that seven out of every eight drivers probably don’t have an emergency contact on file. But the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office wants you to know that it’s easy to change that right from where you are by going online to the Wisconsin DOT.
Information you’ll need to enter includes your first and last name, Wisconsin Driver License or ID Card number, the last 4 digits of your Social Security number, and your date of birth. Then you’ll enter your emergency contact’s name, address, phone number, and their relationship to you.
Once you’ve entered and saved that data, the Sheriff said that they’ll be able to let your loved ones know as soon as possible should you become involved in an accident or other emergency.
You can begin the process here.
