According to the Dun & Bradstreet organization’s MDR Education Division, there are 63,311 elementary schools in the United States…which places Sheboygan’s James Madison Elementary School among the top one-tenth of one percent of schools in the US…one of just 69 having earned the title of a 2024 National ESEA Distinguished School in recognition of its extraordinary success in improving student achievement.
The Sheboygan School District noted that the school was recognized for the second consecutive year as a National Elementary and Secondary Education Act Distinguished School. According to the release on Wednesday, the school embraces a unique and diverse student body: nearly 30% of students have disabilities, over 70% come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and just over 20% are English learners. The Sheboygan Area School District considers such diversity one of Madison’s greatest strengths, and its inclusive learning environment is central to the success of students.
Charity Cartland, who has served as Principal at James Madison for the last 7 years, will attend the 2025 National ESEA Conference to share the successful practices of James Madison and to learn from other recognized schools.
