It was still 5 above zero in Nome, Alaska, while at 4 a.m. Tuesday the temperature was 7 below zero at the Sheboygan County Airport. Sheboygan won the wind chill contest as well…it felt like 25 below zero here while Nome was enjoying just 10 below…and our wind chills were hitting 30 below on higher gusts near 15 mph.

Such intense cold is the reason the National Weather Service had issued a Cold Weather Advisory to be in effect until noon today, with another advisory issued Wednesday morning from midnight until 10 a.m. Actual temperatures likely won’t clear 10 above today, and while lows drop to around 5 below tonight, the winds never drop below 10 mph, keeping wind chills below zero until midday Thursday. If there’s good news, it is the gradual, slight improvement seen each day. That warming trend is expected to continue through the weekend, when Sunday could bring the first above-freezing conditions experienced in over two weeks.
