Not that one would desire it to become routine, but a pattern does begin to emerge as, for a third consecutive day, east-central Wisconsin joins much of the midwest in an endurance test against arctic air.
The most recent alert from the National Weather Service is a Cold Weather Advisory in effect between midnight tonight and 10 a.m. on Wednesday. During that time, very cold wind chills as low as 23 below zero are expected.
In the Sheboygan area, this will be the result of actual temperatures dipping into the single digits below zero while northwest winds maintain speeds of around 10 mph. Under such conditions, frostbite can be expected on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
The Sheboygan County Warming Center at St. Luke United Methodist Church has been reporting an average of around 50 guests nightly over the past week according to its social web page, providing a warm place to stay, food, and support services for those without somewhere to call home.
Wednesday afternoon still offers more bitterly cold temperatures with highs barely breaking into the teens and wind chills failing to rise above zero. Slow improvement is expected, though, continuing into the weekend which may allow Sunday to experience the first above-freezing temperatures in over two weeks.
