Plans to commit a school shooting in Indiana were interrupted thanks to tips received from the Wisconsin Department of Justice. Those tips pointed towards a 19-year-old woman from the Town of Addison in Washington County, who turned out not to be the actual suspect, but played a key role in preventing the tragedy.
The anonymous tip first came from the Sandy Hook Promise Violence Hotline which was forwarded by the FBI to the Wisconsin DOJ. The plans concerned committing a school shooting on Valentine’s Day that would also involve killing the suspect’s best friend.
Once a Washington County SWAT team took the 19-year-old into custody, she cooperated fully and investigators quickly learned that the actual suspect was not her, but someone she was connected to through a chat group. Washington County authorities proceeded to pose as a friend to the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Trinity Shockley of Mooresville, Indiana, who confessed to the plot upon her arrest, putting a stop to the plans.
The Town of Addison woman was released from custody on Tuesday and charges aren’t expected against her.
