Forecasters were confident on Wednesday morning that earlier forecasts of a general 5-7” snowfall in Sheboygan County were on-target, and a Winter Storm Warning will be in effect between noon today and 3 a.m. Thursday. The warning covers lakeshore counties from Manitowoc to the state line and also includes Waukesha and Washington Counties. The heaviest totals up to 9” of the light, fluffy stuff will be concentrated around Milwaukee County. Sheboygan county is expecting average 5” totals in the west with around 7” near Lake Michigan.

The late-morning onset of the storm may give morning commuters the impression of an easy-going event, but intensities will pick up by 9 or 10 a.m., eventually reaching rates between a half and three-quarters of an inch per hour, maintaining those rates for most of the remainder of the day. The Lake Effect may keep the snow falling until 3 or 4 a.m. in shoreline areas before ending. By the time all is said-and-done, western reaches of Sheboygan County can expect totals close to 5”, while areas from Sheboygan southward along the lakeshore are most likely to record some isolated 8” totals.

Afterwards, breezy northwest winds on Thursday will likely lead to some blowing and drifting of the lightweight snow and create wind chills of between 5 below and zero degrees as cleanup gets underway. A brief break will then lead to another possible 3-5” snowfall on Friday night.
