A prominent figure in City of Sheboygan government, the arts and culture, Terry Kath, has passed away at the age of 91. Kath had been residing at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls.
Terry Kath, a Sheboygan native, was elected to the Sheboygan Common Council in 1961, re-elected in 1963, ran for Mayor in 1965, and again served on the Common Council for another term beginning in 1997.
Kath was elected to the Board of the Sheboygan Area School District in the 1980s, and was a longtime volunteer and activist for programs for children with special needs.
Kath was also active in theatre and was given a lifetime membership in the Sheboygan Theatre Company in 1996 in recognition of his over 40 years of service, some of that as Chair of the Long Range Planning Committee, other times on stage or behind the scenes.
As a member of the Sheboygan Jaycees, Kath co-produced and directed the first indoor “Miss Sheboygan Pageant”, and spearheaded the Bratwurst Day revival called “German Days” at Kiwanis Park.
A private memorial service is planned by the Kath family; the Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
