Arctic conditions have materialized as expected, and warnings of its dangers cover Wisconsin and the Sheboygan area.
Wind chill readings reached 30 below zero shortly before 4 a.m. this Tuesday with the potential of 35 below remaining even after the sun tries to lessen the blow. The Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect until noon as frostbite can happen in as little as 15-25 minutes if exposed. Wind chills will remain in the 20s below this afternoon – cold enough that the National Weather Service is considering a new set of advisories for the remainder of the day. Those going outdoors should dress in layers, cover all exposed skin, and limit time outdoors for both people and pets.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve with actual temperatures exceeding zero and wind chills rising to the teens below by this midnight on brisk south winds. By daybreak tomorrow the still cold, but less extreme incoming airmass will likely yield some light snow. At less than an inch amounts shouldn’t be an issue, but on the still-chilled roadways, slippery conditions could greet the morning commute.
