An onslaught of arctic air is invading Sheboygan County along with the rest of Wisconsin and much of the US from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. The result is cold weather severe enough to threaten life and limb for anyone not protected against its effects.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Milwaukee at Sullivan are expecting lows tonight to reach near 7 below zero, while wind chill readings reach between 18 and 28 below. And as much as the worst winter conditions are usually associated with the cold, dark of night, conditions only worsen during the day on Monday when a high temperature of 2 above is “complimented” by westerly winds of 15 to 25 mph, producing wind chills of 20 to 30 degrees below zero.
Come nighttime Monday, partly cloudy skies will allow whatever warmth remains near the ground to escape into space, with low temperatures reaching near 13 below zero. Add west winds of 10-15 mph, and wind chill readings could reside between 23 and 33 degrees below zero. But again, counter to conventional logic, the prospect of a warmer, new day is devoid of validation.
Tuesday’s high is not expected to rise above zero, while the winds generate wind chills of between 24 and 34 below zero until late afternoon. Therefore, Cold Weather Advisories have been issued area-wide through Tuesday afternoon. The possibility of an Extreme Cold Warning was not ruled out.
Wind chill readings should finally rise above zero on Wednesday, when the actual temperatures are expected to approach nearly 20 degrees. For the foreseeable future, no further aggressive arctic incursion is anticipated.
