Anybody needing to do tasks outdoors will be getting a break from Mother Nature today, but put things off and you’ll pay the price at the hands of an angry Old Man Winter.
The break comes as a warm front allows temperatures to hit an expected 40 degrees or warmer today, although that’s only possible with strong southwest winds gusting to near 35 mph. At least there should be partly sunny skies to buffer the breeze. But what comes next will be no joking matter as dangerous cold invades from Canada. Although not yet out there, forecasters do expect that they’ll be issuing Cold Weather Advisories for the following several days.
The expected lineup of weather systems is setting up an open door to the arctic, with the coldest conditions of the season so far now on the way. Winds bringing the frigid air will likely gust to 30 mph, driving wind chills toward 20 below zero by Saturday night. Things only get colder from there, with wind chills approaching 30 below Sunday night, and possibly colder than 30 below by Tuesday morning. The actual temperatures could stay below zero all the way from early Sunday night through early Wednesday morning, so be prepared with extra protection and supplies if you plan to drive or be outdoors during that period.
