(Editors Note: A response from City Administrator Casey Bradley asserts that contrary to our original account, there was not, in fact, evidence of intent behind the events that have led to the actions addressed by the Common Council in an Emergency Session on Wednesday evening. Bradley also voiced City policy that they do not comment on personnel matters. Accordingly, we have edited the story for accuracy.)
Sheboygan City Hall is apparently having issues with its data infrastructure, and there’s been movements that indicate potential legal actions.
Reports of problems have been circulating for nearly a week, with more than one City employee in-the-know relating similar stories. The depth of the problem isn’t known at this time, but those same reports suggest that the problems, affecting email and other important programs, began after the firing of one of the City’s network administrators last week.
Then on Wednesday morning, an Emergency First Special Common Council Meeting was called for 5:30 in the evening in the form of a closed session. The agenda identified the matter at hand to concern “potential action to protect the security of the city’s information technology infrastructure”…as well as “conferring with legal counsel for the city who is rendering advice concerning strategy to be adopted by the body with respect to litigation in which it is likely to become involved.”
