Election Day 2024 has more than just candidates on the ballot – there are also referenda being floated in many area school districts to approve spending that exceeds state limits, another concerns improvements to the Onion River in Waldo, and there’s one statewide question. All voters will cast yay or nay on a referendum concerning eligibility to vote that asks: “Shall section 1 of article III of the constitution, which deals with suffrage, be amended to provide that only a United States Citizen age 18 or older who resides in an election district may vote in an election for national, state, or local office or at a statewide or local referendum?”
Voters living within the Sheboygan Area School District are being asked whether or not to approve issuing $121 million worth of General Obligation Bonds in order to renovate and add to the Farnsworth and Urban Middle Schools.
The Sheboygan Falls School District is seeking approval of a referendum authorizing it to issue no more than $78.3 million in G.O. Bonds to pay for a school building and facility improvement project that would add to and renovate the High School, and construct additions to and renovate the Elementary School.
Residents of the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah School District will be voting on a proposal to take out $39.6 million in order to fund a school building and facility improvement project that involves the Elementary, Middle and High School buildings.
Those living within the Kiel Area School District will vote up or down on borrowing $67 million for additions and renovations to the current High School that would create a combined High School/Middle School campus and include the costs of the relocation of the Middle School programs as well as other infrastructure improvements.
The Village of Waldo is asking its voters to choose between two options to address issues with the Waldo Mill Pond. One would repair and improve the Onion River Dam and retain the Waldo Mill Pond by borrowing and repaying up to $350,000 over the next 20 years. The other would remove the Onion River Dam and Waldo Mill Pond and rehabilitate the Onion River, provided the Village was awarded the dam removal grant, with the Village responsible for additional rehabilitation costs.
