It’s not often that law enforcement is pitched against a Samurai, but Police in Menasha had just such a situation on Sunday morning.
The Menasha Police Department said they responded to an alarm at around 7:21 a.m., arriving at a business to find broken glass, and a male inside armed with a large samurai sword. Police attempted to talk with the 34-year-old Menasha man brandishing the weapon, but were unable to get him to respond. SWAT teams spent several hours trying to negotiate, but without success as the man moved through the business, destroying property with the sword as he went.
The man eventually came to the door but still refused to leave. That’s when a K-9 officer was dispatched, enabling police to take the man into custody. He now faces charges of failure to comply, criminal damage to property, burglary while armed with a dangerous weapon and misdemeanor bail jumping.
