John F. Koehler, 83, of Sheboygan, passed away Thursday evening, October 10, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born January 6, 1941, in Fond du Lac, John was a son of the late Francis and Janet Kautzer Koehler. He attended Sheboygan area schools and graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1959. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1965, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in 1962. On February 23, 1980, he was united in marriage to Karen F. Pomeroy in Sheboygan.
John retired from the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office as a Lieutenant after 29 years with the with the department. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers and spending time outdoors, especially fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Karen; Sheboygan; his children, Matthew Koehler, Mason, MI, and Christine Koehler, Eau Claire, WI; his two grandchildren, Isla and Coen Koehler, Mason, MI; his sister, Charlotte Koehler, The Villages, Florida; his brother, Charles (Kara) Koehler, Sheboygan; his sister-in-law, Penny Broadway; Sheboygan; his brother-in-law, Jim Kistner, Sheboygan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, Francis and Janet, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Jane Krause and Mary Kistner; his step daughter, Kim Breckheimer; and two sisters-in-law, Marge Glander and Margaret Simonsmeier.
Funeral services for John will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Avenue, Sheboygan. Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will take place in the Gardens of Peace Mausoleum.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
