Herman “Butch” Leonhard, 94, of Urbandale, IA, died October 1 st at Methodist Hospital, Des
Moines, Iowa following a short illness.
He was born in Sheboygan on March 15, 1930, the son of Herman and Martha (Radtke) Leonhard.
After graduating from High School, Butch proudly served in the US Navy and was honorably
discharged in 1950. He was married to Joan Manske on August 13, 1949, who preceded him in
death on June 15, 2020.
Butch worked as a Project Engineer at Vollrath Company for 40 years. During that time, he attended
St. Luke United Methodist Church and was an avid choir member and participated in the Men of
Harmony Chorus. He was a member of the Sheboygan Outboard Club and served as Commodore
for two years. He participated in league bowling at Lakeshore Lanes until 2023. Butch enjoyed
snorkeling in Florida, Hawaii and Jamacia and horseback riding whenever possible. He spent many
summers golfing at Crystal Lake with friends and family.
Butch enjoyed traveling with his wife on Otte Bus Tours, going to Fireside Dinner Theater, visiting
Jamacia, Hawaii, Jackson Hole, and traveling throughout the US. He most recently traveled with his
daughter and her wife to Maui, Jamacia and Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Survivors are his daughter Lynda (Tammy Harrington) Leonhard, Ankeny, Iowa; Tim (Sharon)
Leonhard, Sheboygan, and five grandchildren: Jacob Harrington, Ankeny, Jared Harrington, Ankeny,
Sara Leonhard, Sheboygan, James (Kathy Erdmann-) Leonhard, Brillion, and Lucas (Mari) Leonhard,
Sheboygan, and a sister Cecilia Trossen of Mountain, WI.
