Elizabeth A. “Betty Boop” Schmitting, 89 (but forever 21. And that’s no bulls**t), of Sheboygan, passed away early Sunday morning, September 29, 2024, at the Shores of Sheboygan Assisted Living where she had been residing.
Born October 21, 1934, in Chilton, Elizabeth was a daughter of the late Edward and Lucille Bolz Bittner. She attended Chilton area schools and graduated from Chilton High School. On November 8, 1952, she was united in marriage to Willard A. Schmitting in Chilton. They were married for 61 years before Willard passed away on July 5, 2014.
Betty worked at the jewelry counter at Prange’s, then later Younkers and Boston Store for many years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church. She volunteered her time and talents by working with the Girl Scouts of America. She enjoyed bowling on various leagues and spending time outdoors, especially camping.
She is survived by her nine children, James (Roxane) Schmitting, Kaukauna, JoAnn (Ron) Dubin, Harrogate, TN, Karen (Kevin Ryan) Schmitting, Milwaukee, Diane (Scott Luedke) Schmitting, Sheboygan, Darold (Pam) Schmitting, Elkhart Lake, Cindy (George) Tzortzos, Greenfield, Patricia (Dan) Lindow, Sheboygan, Kelly (Craig) Dorn, Darboy, and John (Tina) Schmitting, Elkhart Lake; 22 grandchildren, Jesse (Krystal), Drew and Kyle (Kamile) Schmitting, Carly Tabori, Natalie, Katherine and Nathan (Jaymee) Dubin, Jack (fiancé Kim), Liam (Madeline) and Eleanor Ryan, Laura (Bill) Walsh and Margot (Maxwell) Nudelman, Shawn (Avra) Schmitting, Morgan (Judd) Strauss, Elizabeth (Ryan) Geil, Jacob Tzortzos, Dylan and Sam Lindow, Alexandria and Maxwell Dorn, and Zachary (Kayla) and Jake Schmitting; 13 great grandchildren, Finley, Sloan, Graham, Madeline, Noah, Grady, Penelope, William, Bridget, Spencer, Logan, Konner and Amelia; her sister, Susan Koehler; her sister-in-law, Delores Blahnik; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Willard, she was preceded in death by her grandson, John Tzortzos; her brothers, Francis Blahnik and William (Madeline) Bittner; a sister, Rosemary (Elroy) Krebsbach; and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Koehler.
Private family services will take place. Inurnment will take place in the Gardens of Peace Mausoleum of Greenlawn Memorial Park.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of The Shores of Sheboygan that were her extended family who gave her love and friendship, the St. Nicholas Hospital ICU and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for all of their loving care and support.
