The Cleveland Fire Department needed help from over 30 other fire and EMS agencies when a large scrap pile caught fire and burned on Friday evening. The first units arrived on the scene at B&B Metals in the Town of Meeme at around 5:30 p.m. and saw fire and smoke coming from the top of the pile, immediately calling for additional help. Incident Command, which had experience at that business, elevated that response with a third alarm, raised that request to a 5th alarm for tenders, and eventually called two interdivisional strike teams of tenders from Brown and Calumet Counties to manage the situation.
Fire fighters worked for around an hour-and-a-half to bring that fire under control, getting help from crane operators from B&B Metals to break down the scrap pile. A cleanup crew remained to extinguish hot spots for another two hours. No injuries were reported.
