The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development released the August employment and unemployment numbers on Wednesday, and they showed a nearly universal downward trend in the numbers of those seeking employment. Sheboygan area statistics were no outliers as the demand for workers remains strong.
As for the total workforce, the Sheboygan Metro Area had a seasonally-adjusted workforce of 63,700, down 100 from July but up by 500 compared to a year ago. The unadjusted unemployment rate of 2.2% in August was down over a half percent from July’s final figurer of 2.8%, and seven-tenths lower than a year ago.
For the City of Sheboygan, the (not-seasonally-adjusted) unemployment rate fell to 2.4% last month, a six-tenths drop from July and eight-tenths lower than last year’s reading.
Out of all 72 Wisconsin counties, Sheboygan shared the fourth-lowest monthly unemployment rate for August, coming in at 2.2%. That’s down from 2.8% last month, and compares to 2.9% in August of ‘23.
As a state, Wisconsin saw unemployment rates go down; that holds true for all 12 metro areas for both the month and over the year, as well as in all 72 counties and 35 municipalities – except for Fond du Lac which saw a two-tenths increase over last August’s rate.
