A Mexican national who’s been illegally in the US while running a cocaine distribution operation will spend another five years here before being deported. 41-year-old Jose Resendiz-Gomez, whom records show was living in the City of Manitowoc, was given a five-year sentence in federal prison on Monday after he pled guilty to Possessing Cocaine With Intent to Distribute and Possessing Firearms as a Previously Convicted Felon and Illegal Alien.
Court records show that agents from the Manitowoc County Drug Task Force made controlled buys of cocaine in July of last year. In August of ‘23, officers arrested Resendiz-Gomez after a traffic stop where he was returning from Illinois with 600 grams of cocaine for distribution in Manitowoc. A following search of his home turned up two 9-mm pistols and 70 rounds of ammunition.
Judge Griesbach called Resendiz-Gomez’s months-long trafficking and firearms violations “serious offenses warranting significant punishment and deterrence.” After serving his sentence Resendiz-Gomez will face deportation to Mexico.
