On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, Dorothy Yurk was called home by her Lord and Savior at Pine Haven, her home of the last 12 years. She was 100 years old.
Dorothy Yurk was born February 8, 1924 in Sheboygan, the daughter of David and Sophia (Altergott) Dahmer. She attended Jefferson School, and graduated from North High School in 1942.
She was employed by the Citizens State Bank, with the position of general ledger bookkeeper.
On August 3, 1946 Dorothy was united in marriage to Walter R. Yurk in Sheboygan. They lived in Flint, MI for 4 years, before moving back to Sheboygan. Dorothy was a homemaker, and the bookkeeper for her husband’s construction business. He preceded her in death in 2011.
Dorothy was a member of First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls, and active in the Rebekah Circle, Ruth Circle, the Ambassadors Sunday School Class and the missions committee as well as the library board. She enjoyed reading, especially Christian books, cooking, baking, sewing and gardening. Dorothy and Walter loved to travel, especially to visit our national parks, seeing God’s beautiful creations. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and faithful believer who will be greatly missed.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters: Linda (William) Farrell of NC and Donna (Arvin “Curly”) Broehm of Elkhart Lake; grandchildren Brian (Stephanie) Herman of Sheboygan and Aaron (Amanda) Herman of Marshfield; 8 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Walter, parents, sons-in-law Ronald Sokalski and Milton Herman; granddaughter Melissa Yurk and great-grandson Quinn Herman, siblings: Wilma Ehler, David Dahmer Jr., Edwin Dahmer, Esther Thiel and Hildegarde Vogt.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, September 27, 2024 at First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls. Pastor Brad Veenendaal will officiate. All are welcome to view a livestream of the service on Dorothy’s obituary page at www.wenigfh.com . The family will receive visitors at the church on Friday morning from 10:00-11:00AM. Entombment will take place at Garden Terrace Mausoleum, Lutheran Cemetery beside Walter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to First Reformed Church.
