Agencies from Sheboygan and surrounding counties were called to respond to an accident involving a school bus southwest of Random Lake this morning. The accident occurred at the intersection of Ozaukee County Highway “E” and Jay Road, just south of the Sheboygan County line and southwest of Random Lake. Images from the scene suggest that a late-model, dark-colored SUV collided with the bus, sending it off the road, rolling over onto its side about 10 yards off the road.
A message from the Random Lake School District Administration sent to parents at around 8:30 this morning read: “Dear Parents/Guardians: This morning Bus 17 was involved in an accident. Students were injured and are receiving medical attention. All impacted families have been contacted and the remaining students on the bus are actively being picked up by their parents. As we know more information, we will update families. If you are concerned about your child at school, please contact the school office. The school counselors will be available to support families and students. Thank you.”
Social media reports indicated that several helicopters were requested to the scene, and EMS units from Grafton, Cedarburg, West Bend, Newburg, Port Washington, along with several from Sheboygan County were on-scene to aid the victims.
At least one student, a 13-year-old, was rendered unconscious in the accident but was recovering.
