The request has gone out from the City of Sheboygan for persons to fill the need for poll workers this November. City Clerk Meredith DeBruin said that poll workers are essential in enhancing the high quality and efficiency of the voting process, and volunteers are being sought to apply through her office at 828 Center Avenue, Suite 103. Applications will be accepted during regular business hours.
According to the MyVote website, poll workers do everything from checking in voters and helping people register to vote, to checking photo IDs and process absentee ballots. In order to qualify, a person must be an adult who’s resided in their election district for at least 28 consecutive days, be able to read and write fluently in the English Language, and must not be a candidate for any office on that district’s ballot.
Poll workers must be available to attend a mandatory training session at City Hall in October, an event DeBruin said is essential to ensure that poll workers are well-prepared to carry out their duties effectively and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
