The West Bend Police Department was called to figure out details of an incident on Sunday in which Sheboygan Police shot a 23-year-old man who disarmed an officer who was attempting an arrest.
Reports by Sheboygan Police indicate that they responded to the North 13th and Superior Avenue area at around 6:10 p.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a man appearing to wave a gun. Officers located a man matching the caller’s description, and while attempting to identify him the subject lunged at one of the officers, assaulted him and took the officer’s handgun from the duty belt. A second officer then fired his weapon, striking the suspect who was then given medical aid, taken to a local hospital and stabilized. He was later taken by Flight for Life to a Green Bay area hospital where he’s expected to undergo surgery. The officer who was assaulted sustained minor injuries.
The West Bend Police Department has been called to handle the case, and officials say there’s no ongoing risk to the public. No further information was released as the case remains under investigation.
