The process of developing the plan that will guide the City of Sheboygan’s path for the next two decades will begin by emulating at least one concept that’s expected to play a significant role – a bike ride. The City of Sheboygan Comprehensive plan, last completed in 2011, is due for revision. It functions as the City’s long-range guide informing decisions regarding growth, development and preservation, and is also frequently used by developers, residents and other community stakeholders in their decision-making. The State of Wisconsin requires any municipality who uses zoning to develop a Comprehensive Plan.
The first large-scale discussion, called the “Ride with Ryan” tour, will take place as a slow-roll, 7-mile bicycle tour, led by Mayor Ryan Sorenson and facilitated by Sheboygan Active Transportation, a non-governmental organization dedicated to making Sheboygan a more walkable, accessible, bike-able city. The bike ride aligns with Sheboygan’s current emphasis on expanding non-motorized infrastructure while pursuing a “Complete Streets” policy to enhance road safety for all users.
Mayor Sorenson said that “By experiencing our city on two wheels, we can better understand the challenges and opportunities for improving our transportation infrastructure and overall community development.”
The “Ride with Ryan” bike tour takes place next week Saturday the 14th, beginning at 1 p.m. at City Hall. Those with questions about the tour are directed to the Mayor’s Office phone number (920-459-3317), and for information on the Comprehensive Plan, visit Sheboygan Comprehensive Plan.
