Local golfers who made the cut didn’t finish in winning position, but did make impressive showings during the Suter Ward Group Wisconsin State Open at Minocqua Country Club that concluded on Wednesday.
156 entered with 61 making the cut on Tuesday. Of those, amateur Drake Wilcox of Sheboygan finished in a three-way tie for sixth place by scoring a 4 under par 68 for a total 12-under. Whistling Straits pro David Bach logged even-par on Wednesday to finish 8-under for the tournament and a tie for 16th place. Sheboygan amateur Jeffrey Perry golfed a six-under-par on Wednesday to finish 7-under for the tourney and an 18th place finish, with amateur Max Schmidtke of Sheboygan just behind with a six-under total. Plymouth’s Chad Sandee golfed two under on Wednesday to finish even-par 288.
The winner at 16-under for the tournament was amateur Max Lyons of Peoria, Illinois, and the runner-up was Oconomowoc’s George Kneiser coming in at 14-under.
