Voters will be casting ballots for their preferred party’s candidates and giving thumbs up-or-down on referendum questions today. The August primary is open, meaning that you don’t have to declare a party preference before voting, however you can vote in only one party’s primary.
Other than the option for a write-in vote, most positions are uncontested outside of the Republican party where there are a few challenges to note. Eric Hovde, Charles E. Barman and Rejani Raveendran are competing in order to challenge Democrat US Senator Tammy Baldwin in November, while Dave Wage and Paul Tittl are vying for the Republican nomination for Assembly District 25 where Stephen Welch has the Democrat position on November’s ballot. Daniel Feyen and Timothy Ramthun are both going for the District 20 Senatorial Republican Nomination to face Democrat Michael Rapp in November’s General Election, while Lindee Rae Brill and Brian Hilbelink are facing off for the Republican Assembly District 27 nomination to face Democrat Kay Ladson in November.
Even if no vote is cast for a primary contest, there are two referendum questions for all Wisconsinites to answer. The first asks to change the State Constitution so that the legislature may not delegate its sole power to determine how moneys are appropriated, while the second prohibits allocation of federal money by the Governor without legislative approval. Both are Republican initiatives in reaction to Governor Evers’ distribution of COVID-related funds that were made entirely at his discretion under current rules.
Polls open at 7 this morning and close at 8 tonight.
