(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 9, 2024 – Throughout his first decade behind the wheel of a Grand National car, a visit to victory lane in A-main competition at The Plymouth Dirt Track proved elusive for Cascade’s Brad Weiss.
That hole in Weiss’s list of accomplishments was finally filled when he outdueled 2022 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Grand National champion Luke Scholten on Saturday, May 11 to taste victory for the first time in main event action at The Plymouth Dirt Track.
With a total of 15 career A-main victories to his credit, the West Bend native has made winning a habit throughout his racing career, which launched in a slightly different discipline of racing in 1995.
“My older brother, John Weiss, raced at Plymouth in the mid-to-late 1980s,” Weiss said “I started racing in 1995 at Tomahawk Speedway, where I found out my dad used to race. I ran in the Bomber division for a few years and then raced Four Cylinder cars at Tomahawk. Later, I ran a Super Stock at Tomahawk and Wausau State Park Speedway. This racing was on asphalt.”
Ten years ago, Weiss’ racing career took a turn down a dirt path and hasn’t turned back since.
“In 2014, I bought my first Grand National and ran maybe two nights at Plymouth Dirt Track,” Weiss said. “I ran my first full season in 2015 in the Grand National division at Plymouth. Then I started running at Gravity Park in 2019 and have been running weekly there ever since and running some nights at Plymouth, as well.
“Over the years, I have also raced a Grand National on dirt at 141 Speedway, the Oshkosh Speedzone, Luxemburg, Beaver Dam, Seymour and Eagle River,” he said.
After being an occasional competitor at The Plymouth Dirt Track over the past few seasons, Weiss tweaked his racing schedule to make the venerable 74-year-old track a priority for the 2024 season.
“This year I have done the full schedule at both Gravity Park and Plymouth on a weekly basis,” Weiss said.
His increased presence at Plymouth has produced one A-main victory to go along with three additional top 10 A-main finishes in six PDTR Grand National main events to stand sixth in points heading into the final three scheduled Grand National events of the 2024 PDTR season.
In addition, Weiss presently stands second in the Grand National point standings at Gravity Park Speedway in Chilton.
In reflecting on his racing career, Weiss points to a handful of memorable accomplishments.
“I have a few highlights that come to mind,” Weiss said. “Winning the 2023 Luxemburg Fall Special and starting the 2024 season with a clean sweep at Gravity Park were memorable accomplishments. The following week, I got my first career feature win at Plymouth, which was also a clean sweep.”
Weiss says he is compelled to compete at The Plymouth Dirt Track for reasons originating both on and off the track.
“I enjoy the tough competition, as well as the different tracks we can run,” Weiss said. “Aside from the racing part of it, the camaraderie and the friends that have become family has been a huge part of the whole racing experience for me.”
As the 2024 racing season hurdles down the home stretch, Weiss has some clear goals in mind.
“My goals for the remainder of the 2024 season are to win the Grand National championship at Gravity Park and finish in the top five in points at Plymouth,” Weiss said. “Along with that, I would love to win the Labor Day race at Eagle River. If there is a Top Dog Challenge again, I would like to compete in that and finish in the top three. Of course, not wrecking the car is a big key if we want to have a chance to compete for those goals.”
