Susan A. Gabsch, 75, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice surrounded by her family.
Born April 18, 1949, in Sheboygan, Susan was a daughter of the late Edgar and Althea Gandre Katte. She attended Sheboygan area schools and graduated from South High School in 1967. In 1970, Susan graduated from Holy Family Hospital School of Nursing and passed the State of Wisconsin R.N. boards. On October 16, 1971, Susan was united in marriage to Daryl L. Gabsch. She later furthered her education, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Biology degree from Silver Lake College in 1988 and then a Master of Science in Vocational and Technical Education from U.W. Stout.
Susan worked at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital, St. Nicholas Hospital, and Lakeshore Technical College, teaching nursing, CNA, and assisted living personal for 22 years. She worked at Heartland Hospice in Fond Du Lac as an RN Case Manager and Patient Care Coordinator for 9 years before her retirement due to ill health. In January of 2015, she received a liver transplant. Susan loved to travel, visiting almost every state in the U.S., Mexico, the Caribbean, Greece, and Turkey. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, gardening, flower arranging, going out to eat with family and friends, cooking, and baking. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family.
She was the organist at St. John/St. Peter Lutheran Church in Cleveland and was the pianist and organist at Our Shepherd UCC in Howards Grove for many years. She also served as the treasurer for several years, as well as many other volunteer activities at the church.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Daryl; her children, Jody (fiancé Chris Blanke) Leischner and Daniel Gabsch; four grandchildren, Samantha (Jeremy Fessler) Leischner, Mark Leischner, Chloe Gabsch and Alex Gabsch; one great grandchild, Jase Fessler; her sister, Sharon Mehlberg; her brother-in-law, Orrin Gabsch; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Besides her parents, Edgar and Althea; she was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Arno and Esther (Beeck) Gabsch; her sister-in-law, Karen Gabsch; and a brother-in-law, Thomas Mehlberg.
A memorial service for Susan will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Our Shepherd United Church of Christ, 710 Ethan Allen Drive in Howards Grove. Family and friends are welcome at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. A celebration of life will follow at Butch & Anne’s Pine Grove. Inurnment will take place in Saxon Cemetery.
Memorials in Susan’s name may be made to Our Shepherd UCC Scholarship Program or the U.W. Madison Transplant Program (Donate Life).
