Herbert J. Henning passed away peacefully on Friday, August 2, 2024, at the age of 83 following a long decline in health. Herb is now free of his health issues and pain.
Born July 18, 1941, Herbert was a son of the late Otto and Leona Wolfmeyer Henning. He attended Sheboygan area schools and graduated from Central High School in 1959. On June 6, 1970, he was united in marriage to Kathleen L. Roehl at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. They were married for 28 years before Kathleen preceded him in death on August 18, 1998.
Herb lived a rich and full life. He loved his wife deeply, caring for her when needed and treasuring her company and cooking. He worked at Hoffman’s Flowerland as a delivery person in his late teens and then at Springtime Beverages/Schultz Sav-o Stores for many years. Herb loved spending time with his daughter Michelle and talking to relatives on the phone.
In his younger days, Herb enjoyed many activities including picnics and holidays with family. As a young child, he liked to play with and chase the families dog and chickens. He later was a member of Ebenezer UCC’s dartball team. He took great pride in his 1956 Chevy and later his 1968 Chevy Chevelle. Following his father’s untimely death, Herb helped his mother and family in any way he could, meriting a service hardship exemption so that he could drive his mother to her job at Memorial Hospital. He even got his name and picture in the Sheboygan Press following a furnace accident at his mother’s house.
Most recently, Herb became an avid television viewer. He enjoyed westerns, classic movies and TV shows. He also collected die-cast car reproductions and model railroad figures. He also treasured visits from his daughter and other family members.
Herb is survived by his daughter, Michelle and Raymond Woolwine; his granddaughter, Amber and Alan Cavazos; four nephews, Daniel, James, and Thomas Albertin, and David Henning; a niece, Susan Peters; other relatives and friends.
Besides his parent and his wife, Kathleen, he was preceded in death by an infant son, John; his brothers, Melvin and Harold (Shirley) Henning and his sister, Ruth (Harvey) Albertin.
Funeral service for Herbert will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024, at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Avenue. Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place in Sheboygan Falls Cemetery.
