If Sheboygan had a mascot, it would surely be the “Bratmeister” that will be seen in Saturday’s Bratwurst Day parade. You can’t miss him – he’s 9-feet tall and 44 years old. And now you can have him in miniature, ready to bob his head to a polka…or metal…or whatever…because he’s a bobblehead.
The Bratmeister, a balloon resembling a Bavarian character, was debuted in 1980 as the mascot of the Sheboygan Jaycees who manage Bratwurst Day, which was begun to celebrate Sheboygan’s 100th anniversary in 1953. This year’s event runs today and Saturday at Kiwanis Park, where the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum will unveil the limited-edition statuette following Saturday’s 1 p.m. brat eating contest.
The bobblehead Bratmeister is depicted on a red circular base bearing his name and the Brat Days logo and eating a double brat – no doubt made by Brat Days sponsor Johnsonville. Each of the 100 limited edition Bratmeisters will be numbered, and with presale orders being taken now, will be shipped in October for $40 each plus $8 shipping. The number-one bobblehead will be auctioned off following its debut.
